James 1.22-25 (ESV)

• Click the link above to go to this passage on BibleGateway.com.

  • Think back to your study in Day 1. Fill in the blanks: “If I am doing the things mentioned in verse 19, then, according to verse 22, I am being a ________ of the _______.”

  • Try this: Go look at your face in a mirror and study how you look. Leave the mirror and try to picture yourself. How well can you remember your face after 5, 10, 30, and 60 seconds? Does this experiment help you understand verses  23-24? Why or why not?

  • What is James really saying in verses 23-24? (HINT: he’s not trying to make a point about our faces and our ability to remember them) Do you think James is trying to show us the importance of living out our faith—that our actions say a lot about our identity? Why or why not?

  • What is the “perfect law, the law of liberty”?

  • What does it mean to be a “doer”? What are some things you’ve read in the Bible that you only heard, and never acted on? Name one way that you can be a “doer”.

  • Ask God to reveal to you the areas in your life where you need to become a “doer” of the word.

  • Obviously, God’s Word (the Bible) is very important in the life of a Christian. Ask God to help you grow by reading the Bible and putting it into action, so that those around you can see Jesus through you.
